Precision Driving

Professional Driver

Colin does not treat the role of Professional Driver with a dose of bravery… Rather smarts, technical skills and a healthy respect for danger. With budget, prep & shot time, equipment, and stunt players,,, working in sync with the camera vehicle safely is an absolute essential. Colin understands and has build a long career on doing it right and safe while making it look completely out of control on the camera.

He can be my driver anytime!” Said on set after a car chase involving slides and crashes!”

Stunt Driving is being able to take a vehicle to the edge of losing control…. while staying in control. “Controlled Chaos” as some have said. Almost every action movie features some type of automotive stunt work. Whether it is a fully involved car chase with multiple vehicles, or a single car sliding to a stop on a specific mark, these maneuvers are all executed by highly trained stunt performers.

As out of control as some of these stunts may look, they are planned, choreographed, rehearsed, and performed with every precaution taken.

Make your vehicle scene richer with quality stunt work

More complicated jobs, especially chase scenes, require a stunt coordinator. Because of the dangers involved in a precision driving stunt, the AD is required by the Director’s Guild Association (DGA) to cover specific safety measures with the entire cast and crew before a stunt is performed. Any concerns are brought up during this meeting, and the shot won’t happen until the AD is convinced that it can be performed without a hitch.

Stunt driving is a very specialized skill. Cars used in stunt scenes aren’t “off the showroom floor” stock models. They’re modified with added safety equipment such as a roll cage and on-board fire extinguishers, rigs for placing cameras and any gear needed to accomplish the stunt itself. If the car needs to flip or jump, a large pneumatic air ram is bolted into the car. If the ram points down, it can be triggered by the driver to fire a pole at the ground, propelling the car into a flip. An air ram pointing backward can launch a car into an impressive jump. While not all car chases and crashes involve fire, many will end with the car crashing and causing a huge explosion or catching on fire.
